49.xxx Error Cycle Power
The 49 Errors all refer to a job command which was not understood,
or was impossible for the printer to carry out. The print file is
somehow corrupt, incomplete, too large, in the wrong language, or
otherwise distasteful to the printer. Cycle Power means to turn
the printer off and then back on again after about a minute. But
if the print job wasn’t completely sent to the printer, the
same error will show up again. So you need to delete the file from
the print queue and then turn off the printer for a minute. Try
the file again, but if the same thing happens again you will need
to redesign the piece. You can print something else to be sure that
it is not a printer problem. There is a rare situation where a 49
Error indicates a problem with the printer’s internal processor.
54.2 Error
In an HP 4500 and 4550 this error code means that the carousel
isn’t rotating as the printer expected it to. This error sometimes
happens after changing cartridges. Usually one cartridge isn’t
seated correctly, and it’s blocking the rotation of the carousel.
With the top door open , on the top of the printer, to the right
of the carousel is a little keyhole. Pressing a screwdriver into
this hole will release the brake and allow free rotation of the
carousel. Check that all cartridges are well-seated, and look for
other obstructions, like a cartridge flap out of position, etc.
Sometimes a cartridge tab will be out of position. On the right
side of each cartridge is a tab in one of four positions. From left
to right, Black, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta. If a tab is preventing a
cartridge from sitting correctly, just remove the tab. Break it
off with pliers. Its only purpose is to prevent you from inserting
it in the wrong color position.
Problem: the printer keeps ejecting blank pages.
You sent a print job to the printer, and it kicked out a blank
page, and then another and another, and it’s still spitting
out blank pages until you run out of paper or shut it down.
Solution: This is the
result of a transfer kit gone bad. I haven’t found out exactly
what went wrong in the transfer kit, but the problem goes away as
soon as the transfer kit is replaced. The printer will report that
there is still life remaining on the transfer kit, sometimes a lot
of life, but in actuality it needs to be replaced.
Problem: printer makes thumping noise.
It goes thump, thump, thump, thump whenever you print, loudly.
The fuser is the component in the bottom back which melts the toner
into the paper. It has two rollers, through which every sheet of
paper has to pass. If the printer has sat idle for a long period
of time one of these rollers can develop a flat side. This may also
adversely affect print quality since full fusing is not happening.
Solution: The fuser has
to be replaced. Quality rebuilt fusing assemblies are available
for $140. Call Hilton Images at 352-384-3707.
